I was teaching a class today the balanced breathing skill. Essentially, a deep breathing technique that I have mentioned before and can be found here and here and of course here. The reason why I mention it so much is you have to keep doing it every day otherwise you don’t get the benefits that having a higher heart rate variability can bring.
I told the class this morning the same thing and some places and times that you can practice the skill.
Right after you wake up in the morning.
At a stop light waiting for traffic.
Right before you start your day at work.
On a break at work.
After lunch.
Before a workout.
After a workout.
Pumping gas.
Right before you go to bed.
Just a couple of minutes here and there add up. You can use biofeedback to see how you are doing, but you don’t need it to just breathe. Sometimes I will catch myself breathing with my diaphragm automatically. Which is good, but in order to get there the idea is to be aware and take control.
God Bless
