Lent Begins

Today is the first day of the season of Lent.  It also happens to be Valentine’s Day.  Kind of cruel trick for those that are giving up chocolate and sweets for Lent.  If you are unfamiliar with the season of Lent I would highly encourage you to listen to the Daily Audio Bible today.  Brian discusses the purpose behind and why people give up something that would be considered a sacrifice.

I am doing two things during Lent to prepare for Easter.  Lent is a season where we should be contemplating the impact sin has on our lives and the tremendous gift we were given with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.  I am giving up sugar/sweets and I will run everyday of Lent.  Both contribute to my health but there is an intentionality behind them.  Brian today mentioned that Lent is a time to look at the things in our life that we either need to reorder their importance or abstain from altogether.  I need to curb my sweet tooth, especially as I get older.  The toughest part is no sugar in my coffee, but I have done it before.

During my runs and any walks I take throughout the day I am planning on meditating on two things.  One, what in my life do I need to reorder or get rid of completely and two, what are the blessings in my life and how can I be a better steward of them.

My data for today.  My sleep is not trending in the right direction.  Gonna try to do better tonight.  Better on balanced breathing today and again hit my step count today (running helps).

Respect and obey the Lord! This is the beginning of wisdom.  To have understanding you must know the Holy God.”
