Every journey begins with a first step

And it is appropriate that the first step be guided by God.

“The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young— let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance— for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.”

Proverbs 1: 1-6

Today is my first day toward better health and today I just want to talk about spiritual health as it is foundational.  Tomorrow I will address mental health and physical health the following day.  In order for me to build better spiritual health, I’ve found that I need to spend time in God’s Word every day.  I meet this need by listening to the Bible on the Daily Audio Bible App.  Everyday, Brian Hardin reads a passage from the Old Testament, the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.  They’ve just released a new free App that is quite remarkable in all that it does.  I’ve been listening for years now. Over those years listening to DAB, I have noticed many changes in my spiritual health. I’ve experienced big gains in my overall Bible knowledge. I’ve developed more insight into the Bible in its entirety, and I now have more intimacy with the stories and their meaning.

This year my goal is to reflect on a passage every day and how it relates to me and how it can ultimately reshape me.  As Solomon writes, I want to “gain wisdom and instruction…, to do what is right and just and fair;…and get guidance” in all that I do for my family.

If I allow God to guide me, I will be a better husband, a better father, and a better healthier person.

I am excited for this journey and I am excited to take this first step! I invite you along on this journey with me.  See you tomorrow.
