A FIVE DAY DEVOTIONAL TO GET YOU MOVING TOWARD SPIRITUAL, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH
“If you wander off the road to the right or the left, you will hear his voice behind you saying, “Here is the road. Follow it.”
So many times I wander off the road and need to get back on it. Especially, if it is a Thursday. The next day is Friday so it is easy to get off task and derail me. Whether it is lack of sleep, work pressure or even the impending weekend its hard to follow through. With all that internal chatter going on it may be hard to hear the voice saying, “Here is the road. Follow it.” So today we’re going to work on being present for that connection. Sometimes for me in the quiet of breathing and eliminating the mental chatter I can hear that voice. His voice giving us the guidance we need. So today place the emphasis on limiting that mental chatter.
Today let’s combine the physical and mental. Often while on my short walks I let my mind just daydream. Sometimes it wanders back to work issues, sometimes I worry about the future or the past. Those aren’t really helpful thoughts and not restorative. Nor are they keeping myself in the present moment. So today on our walk let’s try on just stay in the present moment. Just like we did the other day notice your surroundings. When your mind does wander (it will) try to bring it and you back into the present.
Okay you’re almost done. Now some questions.
Question 1: How hard was it to keep your mind in the present moment? How often did wander?
Question 2: What kind of things do you tend to think about?
Set aside more time for tomorrow. You’re going to walk for about 15 to 20 minutes. Have you found a consistent time to set aside? Also set aside some time to practice the breathing exercises. They should total about 20 minutes. It doesn’t need to be all at once, in fact its better if you break it up throughout your day. Plan it now. Don’t worry about the next day. Just plan tomorrow.
