Run, Dad Run!

So after setting the trap I have gotten some miles under my shoes.  First run was within 24 hours after posting about the trap.  Throwing the post out there for all to see really made me commit to meeting my SMART goal of running this week.  Normally, I like to jet out of work and get home to my girls as quickly as possible, but my wife suggested I stay after to beat the heat and run on a treadmill.  So, I made it a point to pack some workout clothes and stay after work and get on one of our treadmills.  It only delayed me 20 minutes and I got it done! Accountability partners, here’s proof.

Captured for posterity!

Ironically, I ran in air conditioning and drove home in a car with no air conditioning. So I think I sweated more from my commute than from my run.

Not to worry though because Run #2 was in the great outdoors.

Not bad for an out of shape 43-year-old

Up and back on our street is just a little over a half mile and I did it twice right after our little girl went down for the night. Well she went into her crib, two pacifier replacements later courtesy of mommy (she has a tendency to throw them on the floor), and she finally got to sleep.  Thanks to my lovely wife for the support and encouragement I got two runs in this past week.

So I am feeling pretty good about myself.  For now the behavioral trap has worked, as has having all of you as accountability partners.  Thanks for being there to virtually root me on.

This week I want to run at least two times after work and then one time at home.  Gonna run for a mile each time (unless I feel really good).  After this week I will up the mileage.  So far so good.  40 days to go.  God Bless!

“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus”

Hebrews 12:1-2 (HCSB)
