Making it Routine

Having a hard time taking some time to yourself to get balanced?  Too often the hustle and bustle of life gets in the way.  You may think there just aren’t enough hours let alone minutes in the day to spare.  There are, but you have to look for them!  For example, pumping gas, sitting at a traffic light, and waiting in line at the store.  These moments add up over the day and they are perfect opportunities to do some Balanced Breathing.  Once you find those moments start integrating your Balanced Breathing into them and make it routine.  Once its routine your will start doing it automatically.

Here is my daily routine on the weekdays as an example.  By no means is this perfect or suitable for everyone but it works for me.

5:35 am – out of bed

5:37 am – break dish trying to be super quiet (I don’t recommend this one)

5:38 – 6:05 am – prepare breakfast (egg casserole and hash browns prepped beforehand) pack lunch and eat.

6:05 – 6:30 am shower and get ready for work.

6:32 am – kiss wife goodbye but try not to wake her up

6:40 am – off to work

6:45 – 7:05 am – listen to Daily Audio Bible in the car during my 45 minute commute.  This is a great way to start the day.  Meditating on God’s word helps me get balanced and focused for the day.

7:05 -7:20 am – Balanced Breathing playlist (I mentioned this one in a post a couple of days ago).  After I listen to DAB I cue this up and do a little breathing.  Don’t worry my attention is always on the road and traffic.

7:20 – 8:00 am – Prep for work at office.  Sometimes I will use the Inner Balance App for 5 Minutes to help get me in the right state before class or whatever I am doing.

8:00 11:30 am – Work related items.  Then lunch.

12:00 – 4:00 pm – Work stuff.  Sometimes after lunch I will again use the Inner Balance app to prep me for the afternoon.

4:15ish pm – leave work. On the commute home usually take a way that has less traffic and is pretty scenic so I can decompress.

5:00ish pm – Arrive home.

5:01ish pm – Kiss my lovely wife

5:15 pm –  bed.   Its Daddy duty time.  I help take care of our daughter and do other various Functional Dad duties around the house.  After dinner and the little girl is in bed we take some time to relax/write a post/watch tv.  I also will try to find some time to use the Inner Balance app.

So that’s my routine and it works pretty well.  I pretty much use my commute as a good way to get myself in the right mindset for work on my way in and the right mindset for home on my way back.  Find the moments in your day to find a little or a lot of Balance.  God Bless!

I know I am talking about the Inner Balance App a lot.  In full disclosure I am not affiliated with them and don’t get any monetary gain from mentioning them.  We use their products at work so I am familiar with them and they work well.  I mentioned in an earlier post some alternative apps as well so there are other options.  If you have experience with another similar product or app I would like to hear about it.
